Shortlists

Picks, with the rule printed on the box

We don't rank cameras "best" to "worst" — we haven't lab-tested them, and nobody can for every buyer. Instead, each list below is worked out from the specs in our database, using the rule shown. Change a camera in the admin and these lists update.

Lightest bodies with a viewfinder and in-body stabilisation

RULE Interchangeable-lens cameras whose maker lists both an eye-level viewfinder and sensor-shift (in-body) stabilisation, sorted by the maker's stated weight.

Lightest vlog-ready cameras

RULE Cameras with a screen that can face you and a way to connect an external microphone, sorted by stated weight (action cameras excluded).

Lightest full-frame cameras

RULE Full-frame cameras sorted by the maker's stated weight (check the weight note on each camera — some figures are body-only).

Cameras that record 8K video

RULE Every camera in our database whose maker lists internal 8K recording, A–Z.

Highest-resolution sensors

RULE Stills cameras sorted by the maker's effective megapixel figure.
